Reapalife Records founder, president and recording artists DP Da
Reapa, known in civilian life as Dr. Nikitah Okembe-RA Imani, an associate
professor of sociology at James Madison University, is about to release his
9th and 10th full album releases bundled as a collection entitled Old
School Long Playa. The album will be preceded by a vinyl EP consisting of
five tracks from the album including Coming Up, Dr. Goodgroove, Do
Something To Ya (with labelmate Ned Vicious), and The Comeback. Deejays are
asked to contact the label above for complimentary copies and press kits.
This double Lp will also involve a small club tour of selected dates
throughout the South and East with exact specs TBA shortly on the Reapalife
website. As usual, the album is another chock full batch of songs featuring
the artist’s trademark A-T-L flavor (pointing to his Atlanta roots) with a
VA swing (referring to the danceable moods emanating from current VA
hip-hop styles. Thematically, the discs continue to grapple with the Reapa’s historical occupation with social, political, and spiritual elevation as well as dealing with the realities of material and sensual needs in life. The collection features guest appearances from Murda Mal as well as the aforementioned Ned Vicious, but is largely produced, arranged, composed, mixed, and performed by Reapa himself. It’s definitely a throw back to the old school, but not such a throwback that it forgets today’s modern musical sensibilities and the Reapa’s 20 plus years of rhyming show through here quite well. |
